Eye Disease

Being your primary eye health care provider, our optometrists specialise in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a wide variety of eye health conditions and diseases.

Disease Diagnosis & Management

All of our optometrists are therapeutically endorsed, meaning they can prescribe a range of topical medications to manage eye infections, inflammation, or diseases. We also provide acute care, such as removing foreign bodies or assessing the eyes for injury following trauma.

Comprehensive Eye Exams

A routine eye exam can often detect early signs of systemic diseases, such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes, before they affect your broader health. During your consultation, we also measure your eye pressure; if this is too high, it can indicate a higher risk of glaucoma, much like high blood pressure indicates a higher risk of heart disease.

Co-Management with Specialists

If we detect a condition that requires further specialist examination or surgical intervention, our optometrists will refer you to an ophthalmologist or other health professional. We have developed close professional relationships with many local specialists, allowing us to co-manage your care. This ensures clear communication between all parties so you receive the best possible clinical outcomes.

Eye Diseases Acuity Eyecare Treat

Click on the conditions below to learn more about how we diagnose and manage specific eye diseases:

Blepharitis

Persistent crusting and inflammation of the eyelids indicate this condition. We use advanced hygiene and treatments to restore oils for lasting ocular comfort.

Cataracts

Gradual clouding of the eye's internal lens typically occurs with age, causing blurry vision. Fortunately, sight can be successfully restored through a modern procedure

Diabetic Retinopathy

High blood sugar can damage delicate retinal blood vessels. Regular diabetic eye screenings at Acuity Eyecare are essential to prevent potential permanent vision loss.

Glaucoma

Often called the "silent thief of sight," this disease damages the optic nerve. We provide careful pressure monitoring to protect and preserve your entire field of vision.

Keratoconus

Thinning and bulging of the cornea into a cone-like shape causes distortion. Our team manages this through the use of specialised, custom contact lens designs.

Macular Degeneration

Loss of central vision occurs when the macula deteriorates. Early detection through advanced imaging is vital to protecting your ability to see fine details.

Pterygium and Pinguecula

Non-cancerous growths on the eye are often caused by Australian UV and wind. We provide protective strategies and clinical monitoring to manage the surface.
