Glasses
At Acuity Eyecare, we believe that glasses are a vital part of your everyday life and a unique personal statement. While there are many different lens designs and frame styles available, they all share a single goal: providing clear and comfortable vision. Our team is dedicated to finding a custom solution that ensures you see, and look your best in every environment, perfectly tailored to your visual needs and lifestyle.
Types of Prescription Glasses
Single Vision Lenses
These represent the most straightforward option for vision correction. This specific lens design is engineered to correct your sight for a single focal distance, whether that be for long distance, middle distance, or close-up work only. Single vision glasses are ideal for patients who want a dedicated pair purely for tasks like driving or watching TV. They are also the perfect choice for a pair of reading glasses kept on a bedside table, or for providing the high-definition clarity needed when threading a needle.
Multifocal Lenses
Often referred to as progressive lenses, these allow the wearer to focus at various distances with just one pair of glasses. By using multifocal lenses, you eliminate the need to switch between multiple pairs throughout the day. The term is an "umbrella" description for a wide collection of designs, each with its own unique characteristics. For a new wearer, we always advise that it can take a week or two to adapt as you learn to navigate the different ‘sweet spots’ in the lens. In terms of sheer convenience, they are the premier choice.
If you require a distance prescription, these lenses are perfect for Presbyopia.
Bifocals
This traditional lens design is separated into two discrete viewing sections. The top portion is usually customised to your long-distance prescription, while the smaller segment at the bottom is fitted for near-vision tasks. Bifocals allow the wearer to use just one pair of spectacles for the majority of their daily activities. While they have largely been superseded by modern multifocals, they still play an important part in the optical game for those who benefit from two distinct, clearly defined vision segments.
Occupational & Lifestyle Vision
Computer Glasses
These glasses put the optimum lens power for viewing your computer screen right where you need it for a clear, wide field of view. These lenses are specifically designed to reduce computer vision syndrome, which includes headaches, blurred vision and eye strain by reducing excessive focusing and unhealthy posture. They are available in single vision glasses, or even with a near add down at the bottom of the lens to help with focusing on your keyboard and paperwork on your desk.
Anti-Fatigue Lenses
Anti-fatigue lenses are progressive technology that is built with a slight and subtle boost within your lens for near vision work. As the name suggests, an anti-fatigue lens will work to relieve any visual fatigue symptoms such as headaches, eye strain and blurred vision. In conjunction with an anti-reflective coating, anti-fatigue lenses can also help alleviate tired and sore eyes from excessive near and computer work.
Prescription Reading Glasses
If you find yourself holding text further away to see clearly, you are likely experiencing presbyopia. This age-related change occurs when the eye's internal lens loses flexibility. At Acuity Eyecare, we provide custom-engineered reading glasses that offer a far superior experience to generic "ready-readers". Unlike mass-produced magnifiers, our prescription lenses are tailored to your exact pupillary distance and account for any underlying astigmatism. This ensures high-definition clarity for reading or near-work, allowing you to focus comfortably for hours.

Specialised Safety & Childrens Glasses
Childrens Glasses
As is the case with adults, children's glasses demands can vary greatly. Once the eye test has been conducted, we find the most important factor in a child successfully wearing their glasses is the frame choice. At Acuity Eyecare, we include the child in the decision-making process, whilst always maintaining that the frame is suitable for the vision requirements and has enough scope to fit a growing face.
Safety Glasses
Acuity Eyecare’s certified prescription safety eyewear range is certified to AS/NZS 1337.6 standards. After your personalised eye exam, our helpful dispensing team can assist you with choosing a frame which is both safe, practical and stylish. We use Hoya safety certified lenses which ensure they meet Australian standards. Safety glasses can be made with most prescriptions and in most lens designs to suit your needs.
Sports Glasses
Sports glasses specifically designed for your activities are also available. Whether it’s cycling, snowboarding, squash, tennis, or golf, we can customise a frame and lens solution to suit. For some sports where glasses may not be suitable, please talk to your optometrist about your suitability for contact lenses.
Lens Coatings & Materials

Caring for Your Prescription Glasses
To ensure your eyewear remains in peak condition and provides the clearest possible vision, we recommend following these professional maintenance tips:
-
Two-Handed Handling: Always use both hands to put on or take off your glasses. This prevents the frames from stretching and keeps the lenses properly aligned with your eyes.
-
Safe Storage: When you aren't wearing your glasses, always store them in their protective case. Leaving them on a table or in a bag without protection can lead to accidental surface scratches.
-
Cleaning Technique: Only use a dedicated lens spray and a clean microfibre cloth to wipe your lenses. Avoid using paper towels, dry tissues, or clothing, as these materials can trap abrasive dust and permanently scuff the lens coatings.
-
Heat Protection: Never leave your glasses on the dashboard of a car or near direct heat sources, as extreme temperatures can damage lens coatings and warp certain frame materials.
