The Benefits of Contact Lenses
Like glasses, contact lenses are used in the correction of refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Unlike spectacles, however, contact lenses are not fitted into a frame; rather, they ‘float’ on the surface of your eye.
The primary benefit of choosing contact lenses is the liberation from glasses, particularly during physical activities. They are ideal for high-impact sports like football, netball, soccer, or gymnastics, where frames can be a hindrance or a safety risk. Beyond sports, they offer a wider field of peripheral view and another option for social occasions when you prefer not to wear glasses. Whether you are travelling or simply want a change of look, modern contact lenses provide a versatile and comfortable vision solution.
Tailored Solutions for your Eyes
With rapid advances in optical technology, almost everyone is now a candidate for some form of contact lens. We can correct long and short-sightedness, as well as complex astigmatism. Even if you have been told in the past that your eyes aren't suitable, new materials mean we can likely find a solution for you today.
The decision on which lens will best suit your needs is made in partnership with your optometrist. We evaluate your motivation, the specific tasks you want to perform, your ocular health, and your unique prescription to tailor an eye care plan to suit you.

Soft vs. Hard Contact Lenses
Specialised Contact Lenses for Specific Conditions
Solutions for Presbyopia
If you find yourself needing reading glasses as you get older, you are likely experiencing presbyopia.
We can help you stay out of "readers" using three main strategies:
-
Multifocal Contact Lenses: Graduated zones of power that allow you to see at all distances simultaneously.
-
Monovision Contact Lenses: Fitting one eye for distance and one for near-work.
-
Distance Lenses with Readers: Clear distance vision through contacts with simple reading glasses used only when needed.
Myopia Management
For children and young adults with worsening short-sightedness, contact lenses are now a powerful treatment tool. We use specialised designs to not only provide clear vision but also slow down the progression of the condition.
-
MiSight Lenses: The first TGA-approved soft lens for myopia control.
-
Ortho-K (Orthokeratology): Lenses worn only while you sleep to reshape the cornea.
Keratoconus & Irregular Corneas
Standard lenses often fail to provide clear vision for those with keratoconus. We specialise in advanced hard contact lenses, including miniscleral and scleral designs. These lenses "vault" over the irregular cornea, creating a perfectly smooth optical surface for incredible clarity.

Coloured Contact Lenses
For a different look, why not consider coloured contact lenses? Available in non-prescription or prescription powers, these have the ability to enhance your existing eye colour, change the colour of your eyes completely, or simply add a little sparkle to your look.
While coloured lenses tend to be regarded as a novelty item, it is important to remember that they are still medical devices that must be fitted by an experienced optometrist. The risk of infection or complication may be low, but the mishandling or misuse of a coloured lens can lead to serious eye health issues. At Acuity Eyecare, we ensure your lenses are fitted correctly to your eyes and sourced from professional manufacturers. Mastering Insertion and Removal
Mastering the art of applying and removing your contact lenses is much like learning to ride a bike - it feels awkward at first, but soon becomes second nature.
Our Pro-Tip
Before your fitting appointment, practice desensitising your blink reflex. After thoroughly washing your hands, practice holding your eyelids open and gently touching the white part (sclera) of your eye. This small step makes your in-store teaching session much easier!
Safety, Hygiene & Eye Health
While contact lenses are very safe, they require proper care. To protect your sight from infection, we recommend these essential "Golden Rules"
Hand Hygiene
Always wash and dry your hands before touching your contact lenses or eyes.
No Water or Saliva
Only use optometrist-approved solutions. Tap water contains minerals and bacteria that can cause serious infections.
Replacement Schedule
Never wear a 1-day lens for two days, or a monthly lens for two months.
Fresh Solution
Always discard old solution from the case and use fresh liquid every night.
Case Maintenance
Replace your lens case every three months to prevent bacterial buildup.
Sleep Safety
Unless your contact lenses are specifically prescribed by your optometrist for "extended wear," never sleep in your lenses.
